Youth unemployment in Watford rises again

11.19.49am GMT Wed 17th Mar 2010

Figures published today show that unemployment in Watford has risen by 19 during February. However these figures hide the fact that an 25 extra young people are unemployed in Watford. This is because there is actually a small increase in adults over 25 finding work.

Sal Brinton, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Watford said: 'Whilst it is a relief that unemployment for the over 25s seems to have halted in Watford, it is very worrying that youth unemployment continues to rise. Every single young person who has signed on needs support, and now. It is wrong that the Labour Government help available for under 25s doesn't start until they've been unemployed for months.'
