East of England Lib Dems look forward to seat gains

Liberal Democrats in the East of England are fired up for the general election and are confident of making gains.

At present they hold three seats (Cambridge, Colchester and North Norfolk). They are fighting to gain several more MPs, including the two marginals of Watford and Norwich South. Lib Dem hopes are high too in Chelmsford, Luton South and St Albans.

In last year's European Parliamentary elections in the region, the Liberal Democrats beat Labour. They also have many more local councillors than Labour.

Andrew Duff, Lib Dem MEP for the East of England, said:

"Our hopes are high because we offer the electorate the prospect of radical change based on sound economic recovery.

"Labour has disappointed all but its most ardent supporters.

"The prospect of a new Tory government is unappealing to the large majority of people who want Britain to be a fair, modern and progressive country.

"The Liberal Democrats under Nick Clegg are picking up support across the region. We will all be fighting very hard until the polls close on 6 May.

"People who want to know more about Lib Dem values, policies or candidates are encouraged to get in touch."
